Our unique buildings by the Aurland river

Boutique hotel and farm

29|2 Aurland has been popular among anglers from Norway and further afield for generations. In 2014, the old historic buildings on the farm were restored and we opened our doors as a hotel. New buildings have also been built since then.

The hotel has eight rooms in three different buildings: ‘Fiskerhuset’ (the Fisherman’s Cabin), one of the oldest buildings in Aurland dating from the early 18th century, ‘Geitefjøsen’ (the Goat Barn), a combination of an 18th-century simple log dwelling and modern architecture and ‘Bestemorhuset’ (the Grandmother’s House), from the mid-18th century.

Dinner is served in our new restaurant “ETE” and the lounge is in the old ‘Eldhuset’ (the Smokehouse). The hotel also has a reception area in the old pig pen in the barn, and a spa comprising a wood-burning sauna and hot tub in the garden. We also have kitchen gardens, an orchard, horse pasture and hen house where we collect eggs every day.

The Fisherman’s cabin

We have really put our heart and soul into the walls of the Fisherman’s Cabin, one of the oldest buildings in Aurland, dating from the early 18th century. The furnishing of each room in the Fisherman’s Cabin is inspired by historical guests with close links to the Aurlandselva river.

AMENITIES

  • 2 rooms with bathrooms

  • 2 interconnected suites with bathrooms

The Goat Barn

We are proud of our most recent addition, the Goat Barn, which has been erected on the site of the old goat barn. This is where you’ll find our junior suites ‘Jericho’ , and ‘Liverpool’, named after fishing spots in the river. The previous breakfast room was in 2023 renovated to be our newest suite ‘ Lord Garvagh’ with a large private outdoor area and views of the Turlid waterfall.

The Goat Barn is a traditional cog-jointed house from Norheimsund in Hardanger, dating from the early 18th century, beautifully combined with modern design. Since we like to reuse things, we are very proud of the ‘tower’ – built from recycled windows from houses and cabins that Bjørn has renovated over the years.

The stairs and the bathroom fittings are made from old timbers that were left over from the old ‘Smokehouse’.

The Grandmother suite

The Grandmother Suite in the Grandmother’s House is a tribute to our grandmother Ingrid. She was born in this house dating from the mid-18th century, and she moved back to the farm that she had left at 17 at the age of 85.

The Grandmother Suite is a safe haven if not quite as comfortable as a grandmother’s lap.

  • Coffee/Tea maker

  • Bathroom

  • Private outdoor patio

We know the devil is in the details - and we know our details.

Wether it be the prototypes of fishing rods and reels, old maps, recycled pasture farm doors, hand picked wild flowers, black and white photos and antiques

- everything matters and tells our story.

ETE

Our new-built restaurant ‘ETE’ connects the old traditional smokehouse and the barn. We serve a three-course dinner at 19.00 every evening during high season. This is the perfect place to relax with friends after a day of walking, and to rekindle old friendships and make new acquaintances around our long table.

The smoke house

Our old traditional smokehouse has been converted into a lounge. Enjoy a drink before or after dinner, sit back and read a book or request a private dinner experience.
