EKMAN

The fly fishing banker

Here, you can sit comfortably on the window sill up on the first floor while enjoying the view of Turlidfossen waterfall and the river and just letting your thoughts roam free. The 18th century timber walls can be seen in parts of the room, beside wallpaper with a traditional design from Norsk Arv.

The room has been furnished in memory of the well-known Swedish fly fisher Jan Ekman, a lawyer and one of the prime movers behind the banking success Svenska Handelsbank. He is nevertheless best known for the book Seven nights on the Alta, which is regarded as one of the best books ever published about salmon and salmon anglers. But Jan Ekman was also passionate about sea trout and the salmon in Aurlandselva river and he came here for many years with his family. He was a strong advocate of conservation and of protecting wild fish and rivers from development. His voice still resonates in the walls of the house. Catch and release!

Please note. The Ekman room is situated in a old building built when Norwegians were shorter and the stairs were steeper. We do not recommend people over 185cm staying in the Ekman room.
